5/9/01

Location: The Reef and The Jetty at Masonboro Inlet
Conditions:
Seas:
Water Temp:
Captain: Buck Buchanan
Boat: 21 Sea Pro Bay Boat

Came down Wednesday, went out to the reef, first. Only two boats out there and not much going on, so we went back to the jetty and fished there for awhile. Caught two Blues and one Spanish. Saw one blue caught that was about ten pounds or so.

5/12/01

Location: 10 to 12 Mile Rock
Conditions: sunny, 85 degrees, winds out of the south at 15 to 20 knots
Seas: 2-3 ft.
Water Temp: 70-72 degrees
Captain: Josh Idol
Boat: Grady White 22

Went out at about 7:00 this morning. The chop was already stiff, so I decided to go south so that I would have following seas coming back in the afternoon. I trolled from 5 mile rock to 7 mile rock to 10 mile rock. When I arrived at 10 mile rock there were already 5 boats out there. They were all slow trolling for Kings it looked like. I was trolling 2 ballyhoo, a large spoon, and a spanish bird rig. I caught one medium sized spanish on the spoon and later on I caught a king that weighed about 6 pounds. Caught him on the large spoon, too. I still haven't had a good day, but I am getting out and catching some fish, so hopefully it will turn on sometime soon. I hope to try for some dolphin soon, also.

5/19/01-5/20/01

Location: Liberty Ship and South of the Inlet
Conditions:
Seas: Rough
Water Temp.:
Capt: Ben
Boat:

Fished Liberty Ship on Saturday using clark spoons in #O and #OO on top, with varying trolling weights and with #1 and #2 planers running in a six line spread and only managed about six spanish. Tried jigging with Sting Silvers with no luck. Went south out of the inlet on Sunday and ended up wit only one blue. Marked lots of fish, even on the top, but they were not feeding. Based on my observations, nobody was catching much, and the water was really rough. Better luck next time.

5/20/01

Location: AR370 to 10 Mile Rock
Conditions:
Seas: Choppy
Water Temp.: 70 degrees
Capt: Buck Buchanan
Boat: 21ft. Sea Pro bay boat

We went out early Sunday morning and started trolling clark spoons around the jetties with no luck, so we went out to AR370 where we caught one spanish. We decided to head out to 10 Mile Rock. When we got there, we found 70 degree water and started trolling. We picked up a two pound Bonita and later on, an eight pound King Mackerel.

It was my first Bonita and my first King, so it was a good day for me.

6/10/01

Location: A few miles east of 23 Mile Rock
Conditions: Light Wind, 85 degrees, sunny
Seas: calm
Water temp: upper 70's
Capt: Jeff Idol
Boat: 22 Grady White CC

Went out to 23 mile rock and found a broken up weedline a few miles east of the rock. The weeds held some peanut dolphin and a few nice size gaffers. We caught a few peanuts and a 15 pound bull dolphin. All caught on a Boone Spanish Bird rig. They loved the surface action. Great day on the water.

Conditions: wind 10 kts and less, partly cloudy, 80 degrees
Seas: 1-2 ft.
Water Temp: upper 80's
Capt: Jeff Idol
Boat: The Shaman, 22 ft. Grady White

Went out to 23 Mile Rock this morning and caught two small Bonita, a 10-12 lb. King, and a 15 pound Dolphin. Caught the Bonita and the King on a big drone spoon. Caught the Dolphin on a small spanish bird rig. I caught him in the same place I caught the big Dolphin last week and on the same rig. Anyone see a pattern?

07/16/01

Location: North Jetty at Masonboro Inlet
Conditions: Partly Cloudy, Wind 10 mph, 85 degrees
Seas: 1-2 ft.
Water Temp: mid 80's
Capt: Shannon Idol
Boat: 17 ft. Duracraft

Went flattie fishing today. Caught a bunch of small black sea bass and some toadfish and some lizard fish. All caught on mud minnows. Great to get back out on the water.

07/28/01

Location: AR 380, Bridges at Wrightsville Beach
Conditions: Cloudy, Wind 15-20 mph, 75-80 degrees
Seas: 4 ft.
Water Temp.: mid to upper 80's
Captain: Jeff Idol
Boat: Shaman, 22 Grady White

Fished the Crocker's Marine Owners Tournament today. Caught several 3 ft. sharks out a 380 along with a flounder and a few Black Sea Bass. It was pretty rough, so we decided to come back in, and we fished around the Bridges at Wrightsville. No luck, except for something that took a Pogy and took off like a shot and he couldn't be stopped (12 lb. test) so he was broken off to keep from being spooled. We think it was a 15-20 lb. Cobia. That would have been nice to weigh in, but no such luck. The dinner at Crocker's was great by the way.
